Update on Ava!
Well it's almost time for Ava's 1st birthday and with the 1st birthday usually comes walking. Recently we have had Ava seen at Mayo by Pediatric Orthopedics because we noticed she was struggling to walk on her own. She has been pulling herself up on things and walking around things for some time, but just hasn't started walking on her own, mostly because she trips on her feet. After meeting with the Doctor they diagnosed her with Tibial Torsion (Intoeing). At this point there isn’t anything they do to treat it, but if she doesn’t start to walk on her own by 17 months we will have her seen again. If/when she does start to walk on her own, she will likely continue to struggle with walking until she can compensate for it and learn how to “fix” it so she doesn’t trip. Thankfully the Doctor said it is something she could likely outgrow (usually by age 6), but if not surgery could be an option. Most of the time children choose to have surgery because they are teased about how they walk or stand. So, hopefully she will outgrow it…until then we will keep an eye on her and see what comes of it.
