Sunday we spent the entire day sitting at Kasson Mantorville for Kyle's first wrestling tournament. Boy was it a long day. We were there for weigh-ins at 9:30am, but wrestling didn't actually start until just before 11am. Now that Kyle is in 6th grade, we don't have the privilege of getting in and out of these tournaments within just a couple of hours. Instead we get to sit around for the entire day waiting until they get to his age group, which isn't typically until towards the end of the tournament since he is now in the oldest age group. (OMG...I can't believe he is that old...it makes me so sad). Anyway, it was a long day for all of us. Gym bleachers are just not comfortable for anyone. So, after a lot of waiting...Kyle's group was finally called sometime around 3:30pm or so. Shortly after one of his coaches, who is also a parent of Kyle's wrestling buddy in practice, told us that Kyle and Brady (his son) were going to be in the same bracket. So their first match they would wrestle against each other....kind-of a bummer, but not much we could do about it. So, Kyle first match went well. Brady won the match, but Kyle put up a good fight. In his second match, he again put up a good fight, but ended up pulling something in his back. From that point forward he was in a lot of pain....and not to mention very tired. All of his matches were very tough and he did a great job. In the end he ended up taking 5th place...and was one tired little boy. We made it home just after 5:30pm...and boy were we thankful to just sit and relax! The next tournament will be a team tournament in Kasson again in a couple weeks....this one will be Ava's first tournament. I'm sure it will be an adventure.
All the Mayo wrestlers at the tournament.
